The Cheapest Michelin Star Meals in the World

Updated October 9, 2026 · Star counts and prices checked October 2026

The cheapest Michelin star meal we list costs S$8 (about $6): the smallest bowl of bak chor mee at Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle in Lavender, Singapore. 121 starred restaurants serve a meal for about $50 or less, and the cheapest three-star meal is MOP$728 (about $90) at Jade Dragon. Prices last checked October 2026.

A Michelin star rates the cooking, not the tablecloth, so some of the world’s cheapest starred meals come from hawker stalls, noodle shops and roast-meat counters. Below, every starred restaurant on The Starred Bill is ranked by the cheapest meal it serves, lunch or dinner, set menu or à la carte, converted to US dollars so you can compare across countries. For the typical price at each star level, with wine and service, see how much a Michelin star restaurant costs. Each name opens the restaurant’s prices on The Starred Bill, each town our list for everywhere starred there, and each arrow the restaurant’s page on the MICHELIN Guide.

The 20 cheapest one-star meals

One star is where the bargains are. Of the 3,680 starred restaurants with a price we can rank, 10 serve a meal for $25 or less and 794 for $100 or less. Where the cheapest price is a single dish, a main course or what a meal typically comes to rather than a set menu, the “What you get” column says so: a bowl of noodles is a fine lunch, but it isn’t a tasting menu.

The cheapest two-star meals

Two stars usually means a tasting menu and a price to match, but lunch changes the sums. The cheapest two-star meal we list is the lunch menu at D.O.M. in São Paulo, Brazil, for R$250 (about $50). Several French country restaurants serve a two-star lunch for under €80, and some of London’s two-star kitchens run set lunches for around £60.

The cheapest three-star meals

The cheapest three-star meal we list is at Jade Dragon in Cotai, Macau: tasting lunch set menu, minimum 2 guests, for MOP$728 (about $90). Most of the cheapest three-star meals are lunches in Hong Kong, Macau and Japan, where kaiseki and Cantonese kitchens serve shorter midday menus. For years Forum, the Cantonese abalone specialist in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, was quoted as the cheapest three-star lunch at HK$600. It doesn’t publish its prices, and the latest we can find, from 2024, is HK$750 (about $95) for its weekday business lunch, so check when you book. Why some starred meals cost under $10

The MICHELIN Guide says its inspectors judge only what is on the plate: the quality of the ingredients, the cooking technique, the harmony of flavors, the chef’s personality in the food and consistency from one visit to the next. Service, decor and comfort don’t count towards a star. That is why a plastic stool can sit in the same guide as a chandelier.

Three of the world’s starred restaurants are noodle and street-food counters. Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle in Singapore has held a star since the first Singapore guide in 2016 for its bak chor mee, minced pork noodles tossed in black vinegar, from S$8 (about $6) a bowl. Ho Hung Kee in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay holds one for wonton noodles and congee, with a small bowl of wonton noodles at HK$50 (about $6). In Bangkok, Jay Fai cooks crab omelets and drunken noodles over charcoal at a shophouse in the old town, where a meal typically comes to about ฿1,000 (about $30). Hong Kong’s roast-meat counters are close behind: a plate of roast goose leg on rice costs HK$93 (about $12) at Kam’s Roast Goose.

The cheapest of these don’t take bookings, so the price is paid in time: expect to queue. Our city pages, listed below, cover each in more detail. For how inspectors decide, see how restaurants get a Michelin star.

Lunch is the cheapest way in

Lunch is the easiest way to eat at a starred restaurant for less. Of the 1,909 starred restaurants that list both a set lunch and a set dinner menu, 868 (45%) charge less at lunch, and where they do, lunch typically costs about half the price of dinner. The rest serve the same menu at both, so check before you assume lunch is a deal.

Lunch menus are usually shorter, three or four courses rather than eight or ten, and many run only on weekdays. Some restaurants offer their full tasting menu at lunch at the dinner price, and a few add a cheaper bar or counter menu. Our destination pages list the lunch price wherever a restaurant has one, and our London guide below rounds up the city’s set-lunch deals.

Where Hawker Chan went

For five years the cheapest Michelin star meal in the world was a plate of soy sauce chicken rice from Hawker Chan, a stall in Singapore’s Chinatown Complex that won a star in the first Singapore guide in 2016, when the dish cost about S$2. The stall, first called Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle, opened branches across Asia, and when the Singapore guide was published in September 2021, the Hawker Chan Michelin star was gone. It is no longer in the guide at all. Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is now the only hawker stall in Singapore with a star; our Singapore page lists every starred restaurant there with its price.

How we rank them

Each restaurant’s price is the cheapest meal we list for it, per person in local currency before service, tax where it is added on top, and drinks, converted to US dollars at recent exchange rates. Set menus come from restaurants’ own websites wherever they publish them, then from recent reviews and booking sites; the source is linked from each restaurant’s row on our destination pages. Where a restaurant has no set menu, we use the price of a typical main course or dish, or what a meal usually comes to, and say so. We leave out mainland China’s figures, which are average spends reported by diners rather than prices. Stars come only from the current MICHELIN Guide editions (2026 or the latest before them).
