One hawker stall in Singapore holds a Michelin star: Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2026, where a bowl of bak chor mee costs from S$8 (about $6). Hawker Chan lost its star in 2021. Dozens more hawker stalls hold a Bib Gourmand for good value. Prices checked October 2026.

Singapore was the first place the MICHELIN Guide gave a star to a hawker stall, in its first Singapore edition in 2016. Ten years on, Hill Street Tai Hwa is the only Singapore Michelin star hawker stall, and the cheapest starred meal anywhere in the world. Below are the city’s cheapest starred meals, the hawker stall itself, five Bib Gourmand hawkers worth the trip, and the cheapest starred lunch for when you want air conditioning and a tablecloth.

Stars from the current MICHELIN Guide editions (2026 or the latest before it). Each price is the cheapest meal we list for the restaurant, lunch or dinner, per person in local currency before service and drinks, ranked by its value in US dollars at recent exchange rates. “À la carte” is the price of a main course or a typical dish, “typical spend” what a meal usually comes to. Mainland China’s typical spends are left out. Opening days and times from the MICHELIN Guide, which sometimes lists only a day’s first sitting. Last checked October 2026.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle

What to order: bak chor mee, the stall’s only dish: springy noodles tossed to order in black vinegar, chilli and lard, then topped with minced pork, sliced pork, liver, meatballs, dumplings and a piece of fried sole fish. You choose the noodle (thin mee pok is the classic), dry or soup, and the size. The stall dropped its smallest S$6 bowl in 2024, so bowls now start at S$8 (about $6).

The queue: long, and slow, because every bowl is made one at a time. At weekend lunchtimes expect to wait an hour or more; mid-afternoon on a weekday is usually quickest. You queue, order and pay at the counter, then wait for your bowl.

Where: Block 466 Crawford Lane, a coffee shop near Lavender MRT. It has held its star in every Singapore guide since 2016. Its MICHELIN Guide page has the latest opening hours.

What happened to Hawker Chan

Hawker Chan, the Chinatown Complex stall famous for soy sauce chicken rice at about S$2 a plate, won a star alongside Hill Street Tai Hwa in 2016 and was for years called the cheapest Michelin star meal in the world. After it opened branches across Asia, it was left out of the Singapore guide published in September 2021: the Hawker Chan Michelin star was gone, and the stall isn’t in the guide today. The original stall still sells its chicken rice. For the rest of the world’s cheapest starred meals, see the cheapest Michelin star meals in the world.

Five Bib Gourmand hawkers to try

The Bib Gourmand is the MICHELIN Guide’s award for good cooking at a moderate price, and in Singapore most of its Bib Gourmands are hawker stalls. It isn’t a star (see Bib Gourmand vs Michelin star), but it is the guide’s own shortlist of the hawker food it rates. Five of them, all in the current guide:
